Mt. Syakunage from around Niimi hot springs.
We climbed 30min from Niimi hot springs, and found Mt. Shakunage from here.

Climbing with a ski & a snowboard to Mt. Mekunnai
We use mountain ski binding such as"Diamir" or "TLT".
Snowboarders also use snowshoes or sprit boards.
These equipments are indispensable for winter climbing in Hokkaido.

Smiling on the way to Mt. Mekunnai
We climbed the col of Mt. Mekunnai. We found a patch of blue sky occasionally. After that the wind through the pass was getting stronger and it made us wear a balaclava and a snow jacket. You can see Mt. Mekunnai behind us for which we were heading.

Climbing steep ridge
My ex-colleague college who belongs to Japan air force was attacking real steep ridge with ski in Mt. mekunnai.
Climbing ridge surrounded magnificent landscape
According to steep and hard slope, she changed a ski into a crampons
and the others continually climbed with their own equipments.
We were surrounded by a magnificent landscape in Niseko range on the way.

Two ladies on the summit!
You can't see their faces(Sana and Rika) as they are covered with a balaclava.

Descending from the summit
Rika was trying to descend from the summit of Mt. Mekunnai.
The view from there is Mt. Raiden which is located west side of Niseko range.
The Summit of Mt. Mekunnai
Many huge rocks are covered with icy snow due to wintry blasts.

After descending Mt. Mekunnai
we headed for Mt. Iwanai as you can see in this photo.

On the way to Mt Iwanai from south side.

Ocean views from the summit
When we reached the summit of Mt Iwanai, where we could see
The Japan Sea view. We were going to ski form there.

Old ski course
Iwanai ski resort looks like the ruins. but the view from the course was really awesome and they had much snow. Yukako wanted to go down to " Old Dynamic course". The Japanese letters on the sign was so funny...

Niimi hot springs dinner
After finishing our ski trip, we were backed Niimi hot springs by my deposited car in Iwanai ski resort. Nimi onsen which  is along the route 268 was very nice because they had an open air mixed bath tub,and they provided light meal for all guests who paid 500yen to take bath.
